Children's Senior Residential Practitioner
Location: Bramley (Leeds)
Contract: Full-Time (37 hours), Temporary
Shifts: 12:00pm – 11:00pm (followed by a sleep-in) 7:00am – 12:30pm
Salary: £17.29 per hour (PAYE)
Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Senior Residential Practitioner to lead and support a team of residential care staff working with children and young people. This role requires a compassionate and resilient professional committed to creating a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment where children can thrive.
Please note: Due to the specific needs of the service, this position is open to male candidates only.
Key Requirements
  • Proven experience in a children’s residential care setting
  • Demonstrated ability to lead shifts and manage staff effectively
  • NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
  • A social work qualification is desirable but not essential
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, supervise and support a team of residential care staff
  • Act as a key worker, developing and implementing care and support plans
  • Conduct risk assessments and devise individual health and behaviour plans
  • Create and maintain a safe, stimulating and structured living environment
  • Provide appropriate personal care for children and young people with disabilities or complex needs, including bathing, toileting, dressing, and feeding
  • Promote positive behaviour and manage challenging situations using restorative and de-escalation techniques
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date records in line with GDPR regulations
  • Liaise with families, professionals, and external agencies to support young people
  • Provide day-to-day operational support and assume responsibility in the absence of the Registered or Deputy Manager
  • Oversee medication administration in accordance with policy and supervise others in this task
  • Lead planning and delivery of group and individual activities for children and young people
  • Chair and attend meetings, reviews, and contribute to reports and record-keeping
  • Participate in recruitment, induction, supervision, appraisal, and training of staff
Skills & Competencies
  • Strong relationship-building skills with children and young people
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations and provide practical solutions
  • Skilled in conflict resolution and behaviour management
  • Confident in assessing needs and delivering individualised care plans
  • Effective leadership, communication, and organisational abilities
  • Experience working with vulnerable children and young people, especially those with emotional or behavioural challenges
