Data Platform Engineer

Job Description

Service Care Solutions are looking for a Data Platform Engineer for a fully remote role in Preston. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management, administration, maintenance, monitoring and modernisation of the organisations data platforms, systems and integrations; applying agile development practices and working collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary product team focused on continuous improvement. To drive, inform and implement technological solutions taking ideas and/or designs to development into production, working in close collaboration with wider IT team and key business stakeholders.


Main Duties and Responsibilities:


1. Identify, evaluate and translate business requirements to support the development,
implementation, updating and testing of datasets, reports, integrations and lead
on the development and implementation of the technology roadmap.
2. Lead on the development and implementation of plans for data warehouse
modernisation, through the identification, evaluation and translation of business
data and reporting requirements. This will include a wider choice of data sources,
security model(s), greater and more intuitive end-user options for visualisation and
reporting, and capabilities for machine learning and analytics.
3. Provide system administration for the University's data platforms and integrations,
managing security permissions and role-based access.
4. Work collaboratively with colleagues across relevant University teams to
troubleshoot and resolve issues with data platforms and integrations.
5. Support the definition and development of data architecture roadmaps adhering
to architecture standards, policies and governance approaches and processes.
6. Design and produce the ETL/ELT architecture and ingestion patterns.
7. Conduct meetings and presentations to share ideas and findings.
8. Define and document change requirements, functional specifications, user stories
and product backlog items.
9. Maintain and expand own knowledge and skills in relevant business and
technology areas through personal and professional development.
10. Perform and support user acceptance testing.
11. Effectively communicate your insights and plans to cross-functional team members
and management.
12. Provide guidance, training, coaching, and guidance to other team members.
13. Prioritise initiatives based on business needs and requirements.
14. Attend, contribute to, and lead stand-ups, team meetings and other relevant
forums.
15. Demonstrate flexibility and commitment to the University strategic plan, aligning
data and reporting to the Enabling Strategies, policies and development plans.
16. Staff may be required, from time to time and on an ad hoc basis, to work additional
hours and/or hours outside of their normal working pattern to meet the needs of
the business.
17. To observe, monitor and comply with all relevant University policies and
procedures in the performance of duties, particularly in relation to System and
Information Security.
18. Undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade of the role.
