6-month contract (possible extension to 12 months)

We are currently supporting a progressive London Borough in their search for an Interim Director of Regeneration and Assets. This is a senior leadership role, pivotal in delivering an ambitious mayoral target of 1,000 new homes per year, alongside a number of high-profile regeneration and capital projects across housing, education, and community infrastructure.
This role will play a key part in a significant directorate restructure, following the recent insourcing of an ALMO. The successful applicant will lead on establishing a strategic property development and regeneration function—bringing together housing supply, project delivery, corporate real estate, and facilities management (FM) under a newly created corporate landlord model.

Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership for the borough’s capital programme, real estate asset portfolio, and FM services.
  • Collaborate with the Housing Supply team to drive housing development projects from inception through to construction.
  • Accelerate the delivery of 1,000 new homes per year and five key Mayoral capital projects, including an extra care scheme.
  • Set high standards in programme reporting, governance, and delivery assurance.
  • Ensure effective coordination with planning, legal, finance, and political stakeholders to secure site readiness and development viability.
  • Oversee budget management, risk mitigation, and the implementation of innovative practices across development and regeneration workstreams.
  • Report directly to the Corporate Director of Housing and Regeneration and work closely with corporate and executive leadership.
Key Deliverables
  • Lead and motivate multidisciplinary teams across regeneration, real estate, and FM.
  • Establish funding and delivery strategies for currently non-funded housing sites.
  • Create effective dashboards and programme governance frameworks.
  • Secure land and property for development in preparation for 2025/26 construction start dates.
  • Introduce a high-performing, commercially savvy culture within the directorate.
Requirements
  • Proven experience leading large-scale regeneration and housing programmes in complex public sector or registered provider settings.
  • Track record of delivering housing and mixed-use developments at pace and within budget.
  • Strong understanding of corporate asset and facilities management.
  • Commercial acumen and experience of partnership working with developers, contractors, and the GLA or equivalent funding bodies.
  • Skilled in land strategy, project governance, cash flow, and risk management.
  • Politically astute with experience of working directly with senior elected members or mayors.
  • Strategic thinker with hands-on leadership ability and experience managing change in a complex environment.
