Job Title: Electrician
Location: Islington
Pay Rate: £24.40
Contract Type: Ongoing / Full-time (40 hours per week)
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Service Area: Housing – Property Services
Reports to: Supervisor – Repairs and Maintenance Job Overview:
We are currently seeking a skilled and qualified Electrician to join the Property Services division in Islington. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a professional and dedicated repairs and maintenance team, delivering high-quality electrical work in both occupied and empty homes across the borough.
Your primary focus will be carrying out responsive repairs, planned maintenance, and capital works to council-owned properties and social spaces. You’ll also play a vital role in ensuring residents receive safe, decent, and well-maintained homes. Key Responsibilities:
  • Carry out electrical maintenance and installation work to an excellent standard
  • Respond to scheduled repairs, urgent call-outs, and emergency jobs
  • Record job details and materials used on handheld devices (PDA)
  • Identify and report any follow-on works or related repairs
  • Maintain stock and tools in the company vehicle and replenish as required
  • Support apprentices and trainees, offering guidance and monitoring progress
  • Ensure all work complies with health and safety procedures and council policies
  • Liaise with supervisors, planners, and other teams to schedule and deliver work efficiently
What We’re Looking For:
Essential:
  • Recognised qualification in Electrical Installation (e.g., NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds)
  • Experience in domestic electrical repairs and maintenance
  • Strong understanding of health and safety, including asbestos awareness and working at height
  • Ability to use mobile devices and electronic systems to log work
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to work
  • Commitment to safeguarding, customer service, and equality standards
Desirable:
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
  • Experience working in a housing/local authority setting
  • Full UK Driving Licence (if vehicle provided)
