Family Contact Worker – Family Support Services
Location: Trafford & Surrounding Areas
Department: Children, Families and Wellbeing
Grade: Band 4
Hours: Full time (includes 2 in 4 Saturdays on rota)

Are you passionate about supporting vulnerable children and families? Trafford Council is looking for a Family Contact Worker to join our dedicated Family Support Services team.

As a Family Contact Worker, you’ll supervise contact sessions between children and their families, ensuring their safety and wellbeing is at the heart of everything you do. These sessions may take place at our Contact Centre in Trafford, in the community, or occasionally outside the borough in areas such as Stockport, Oldham, Chester, and Merseyside.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and support contact sessions for looked-after children aged 0–16 and their families

  • Organise contact activities in the community, ensuring robust risk assessments

  • Provide clear, objective reports to assist parenting assessments and court proceedings

  • Work closely with social workers, multi-agency teams, and partner organisations

  • Maintain accurate, timely records using systems such as Liquid Logic

  • Contribute to key meetings including LAC Reviews, Core Groups, and Case Conferences

  • Occasionally video final contact sessions for adoption cases

  • Attend court to provide evidence when required

About You:

  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent)

  • At least 1 year of experience in a relevant care or support environment

  • Strong communication skills – both written and verbal

  • Understanding of children’s development, safeguarding, and attachment theories

  • Ability to work with families facing complex challenges including abuse and neglect

  • Confident using electronic recording systems and managing sensitive data

  • Willing to work flexibly, including weekends (on a rota basis)

  • Must pass an Enhanced DBS check
