Family Support Worker

Job Description

Job Title: Family Support Worker
Location: Various locations across Lancashire
Service: Education and Children’s Services – Early Help Service
Contract Type: Permanent / Full-Time
Grade: 6

Are you passionate about making a real difference to the lives of children, young people and families? We’re looking for dedicated and empathetic Family Support Workers to join our Early Help Service team in Lancashire.

As a Family Support Worker, you’ll provide personalised, whole-family, strength-based support to those facing a variety of challenges. You’ll work alongside key partner agencies using a “Team Around the Family” approach to assess needs, co-create action plans, and deliver direct interventions that help children achieve better outcomes.

You will hold a caseload of families in your designated area (e.g. Preston, Burnley, Chorley, etc.) and work across community and intensive support pathways—helping families referred via MASH, social care step-downs, and school-based referrals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake early help assessments and co-produce action plans with families.

  • Deliver evidence-based, direct work with children, young people, and their families.

  • Work closely with schools and partner agencies to support complex family needs.

  • Promote safeguarding and ensure children’s welfare remains the central focus.

  • Maintain accurate case recordings and contribute to service improvements.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A Level 3 qualification (or equivalent experience) in a relevant field.

  • Experience supporting children and families in a multi-agency setting.

  • Strong communication, empathy, critical thinking and organisational skills.

  • Ability to work independently and flexibly across the county.

  • A strong understanding of Early Help principles and child development.

This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a supportive, collaborative team that values continuous improvement and the voice of families at the heart of service delivery.
