Flood Risk Officer

Job Description

A local authority based in Shropshire is looking for a Flood Risk Officer to join their team. This is a full time, temporary ongoing agency role and the successful candidate will have a full relevant Degree level qualification, experience with Flood Risk Management, experience with Drainage and Watercourse Consent and ideally experience in a similar local authority position.


The main purpose of the role is to be responsible for Flood Risk advice and operation throughout the county, for management of flood risk in accordance with the councils Flood Risk Strategy. Also responsible for ensuring the council meets its statutory duties as the Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA). Will be responsible for collaboration with external partners including but not limited to the Environment Agency, Severn and Wye Flood and Coastal Committee, IDBS, Flood Action Groups and other neighbouring local authorities.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate the following;


Relevant Degree level qualification
Demonstrable experience of undertaking duties expected of a Lead Drainage Officer (LDO) and assessing Ordinary Watercourse Consent (OWC) applications on behalf of the local authority who is the Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA).
Demonstrable experience of supporting local authorities fulfilling its statutory functions and ensuring landowners fulfil their riparian obligations in maintaining watercourses is essential.
Extensive knowledge of flood risk and drainage principles.
Knowledge of design standards (DMRB)
Knowledge of the legislation and guidance relevant to flood risk and drainage

The main responsibilities associated with this role are as follows;


Understanding planning procedures.
Experience of Property Flood Protection Assessments and advising property owners of measures they can take to protect their property
Full driving licence and based in Shropshire will be a requirement for the role.
Ability to work from base office and site on a regular basis, with the requirement to work from home as and when required.

The client is looking to move quickly with appointing to this position and as such is offering an hourly rate of £25 - £30 p/hr Umbrella Ltd dependant on experience (Approx. £620 - £720 p/week NET after deductions).
