Job Description

A Local Authority based in Somerset is looking for a Group Accountant to join the team on an initial 12-month basis to assist in the Waste Services department. The post holder will provide financial advice, business analysis and modelling to the Council's Waste Service, which in turn will inform long-term financial planning across both revenue and capital budgets. They will also be responsible for ensuring Services are able to maximise the benefit of the revenue and capital financial resources at their disposal by providing professional finance support to Divisional Directors, Senior Managers, and political decision makers. Ensuring that appropriate financial processes and controls are in place to manage expenditure and income within the budget management and policy framework are essential. The postholder will be expected to manage the team members reporting to them and to deputise for the Finance Manager.

Ideal Candidate

  • CCAB Qualified Accountant with at least 2 years PQE
  • Significant experience with Local Authority financial systems, including budgetary control, accounting procedures, risk management, standing orders and financial regulations
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience of managing junior staff
  • Experience of management accounting of operational services and clear and concise presentation skills
