Are you an experienced housing professional looking to make a real impact in the lives of those facing housing challenges?
We’re currently recruiting on behalf of a local authority in Devon for a Housing Options Officer to join their dedicated Housing Services team for an initial 12-week assignment. This role is key to delivering high-quality advice, homelessness prevention, and housing allocations to residents in need.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide tailored housing advice and support to those at risk of homelessness or in housing need.
  • Assess and determine homelessness applications in line with relevant legislation.
  • Manage housing register applications under the Devon Home Choice scheme.
  • Work closely with Housing Associations and other partners to ensure appropriate allocations.
  • Arrange and monitor temporary accommodation, including Bed & Breakfast placements.
  • Maintain up-to-date records and contribute to statutory reporting and returns.
What We’re Looking For:
  • Previous experience working in housing advice, homelessness prevention, or social housing.
  • A good working knowledge of housing legislation, including the Homelessness Reduction Act.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to sensitively support vulnerable individuals.
  • Strong administrative and IT skills with the ability to manage a diverse caseload.
  • A full driving licence and access to a vehicle for site visits.
