Location: Southwark (Hybrid – 3 days per week in borough)
Contract: Initial 3 months
Hours: 36 hours per week
Rate: £28 per hour (Umbrella) (£22 PAYE an hour)

Southwark Council is looking for an experienced Marketing Communications and Engagement Officer to support our fostering recruitment programme through the development and delivery of a strategic, targeted, and inspiring marketing and communications plan.

This is a vital opportunity to support life-changing work, helping us attract and engage foster carers across the borough. You'll work seamlessly across both the Communications Team and Children’s Services, ensuring a joined-up, insight-led approach that drives meaningful outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate a comprehensive marketing, communications and engagement strategy for fostering recruitment.
  • Produce engaging and persuasive copy for a range of digital and offline channels.
  • Manage and optimise digital advertising campaigns, including paid social and targeted web content.
  • Collaborate across teams to ensure consistent messaging and a unified approach to engagement.
  • Work 3 days a week in the Southwark borough, engaging directly with service teams and local communities.
Essential Requirements:
  1. Strong knowledge of online and offline marketing techniques, with the ability to deploy and evaluate their effectiveness.
  2. Educated to degree level, or able to demonstrate equivalent experience, knowledge, and aptitude.
  3. Proven ability to develop and deliver an effective marketing, communications, and engagement plan.
  4. Demonstrable understanding of local government operations and the broader public sector context.
  5. A solid understanding of fostering and children’s services and the sensitivities involved in recruitment.
  6. Experience using a wide range of communication channels to connect with diverse audiences.
  7. A track record of delivering inspiring, strategic campaigns that achieve measurable outcomes.
