Client: Local Authority – North London
Job Title: Planning Officer
Location: Hybrid – North London (1 day per week in office preferred)
Contract: Ongoing Temporary Contract
Rate: £40 per hour Umbrella LTD (Inside IR35) / £32 PAYE 
Start Date: ASAP

About the Role: A local authority in North London is seeking an experienced Planning Officer to support their Development Management team with the efficient review and processing of senior-level planning cases. This is a hybrid role, with an expectation to work from the office one day per week, and the remainder remotely.
You will take on a varied caseload involving conversions, changes of use, prior approvals, and small-to-medium scale residential applications, with presentation to committee required where necessary.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage a caseload of senior-level planning applications, from validation through to decision.
  • Assess planning proposals for conversions, changes of use, minor and small major residential schemes, and prior approvals.
  • Prepare clear, accurate and professional reports with robust planning recommendations.
  • Present cases to Planning Committee where required.
  • Conduct site visits and liaise with applicants, agents, councillors, and residents.
  • Provide sound planning advice in line with local and national planning policy frameworks.
  • Work collaboratively within the Development Management team and across other departments as needed.
What We’re Looking For:
  • Relevant degree in Town Planning or equivalent
  • RTPI membership (or working towards) preferred
  • Proven experience handling a wide range of applications including minor and small major residential schemes
  • Strong knowledge of planning legislation, permitted development rights, and policy frameworks
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage workload independently and deliver to tight deadlines
  • Experience presenting to committee desirable
