Principal Structural Engineer

Our client, a local authority based in Chichester are recruiting for a Principal Structural Engineer to join their team. This is on an ongoing temporary contract.

The main purpose of the role is to work within the forward-thinking Highways Structures Team, responsible for delivering projects and schemes through the coordination, implementation and promotion of county council policy and good engineering practice. The purpose of the role is to support the team in delivering a customer focused project management service, including provision of professional and technical expertise and guidance on highway structures project related issues.

The Structures team delivers schemes ranging from minor repair schemes to full scale bridge refurbishment and replacement projects e.g. masonry repairs, movement/expansion joint replacement, repainting schemes, bridge deck re-waterproofing bridge refurbishments and bridge replacements.

The role will see you acting as lead engineer, liaising with internal clients, advising them on suitability of schemes for the forward programme, taking full responsibility for schemes from concept to implementation, managing consultants and being responsible for consultation and stakeholder management, and contract administration including managing our framework contractors.

There is a requirement to be able to travel independently to various locations around the county, often to remote locations.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following competencies/attributes;

Previous experience of structural engineering is required, ideally on highways structures, however this is not essential.
