Service Care Legal are currently recruiting on behalf of a London Borough Council who are seeking a Prosecutions Lawyer to join the housing and litigation team on a 6 month contract. Please find below further details with regards to this.

ROLE:                  Prosecutions Lawyer (Housing & Litigation)
RATE:                   £35 to £40 per hour – (£35.71ph PAYE inc. holiday pay, £31.86ph PAYE exc. holiday pay)
LOCATION:         South East London
CONTRACT:        6 months with possibility of extension

Please note that this role would require office attendance 2 days per week.

The Role:

As a Prosecutions Lawyer, you’ll be handling a diverse and busy caseload covering a wide range of criminal and regulatory matters, including:

Housing Act offences (e.g. rogue landlords)
Environmental health breaches
Planning enforcement
Licensing issues
Anti-social behaviour and closure orders

You’ll be advising council departments, drafting enforcement documents, and representing the council in Magistrates’ and Crown Courts, so a strong grounding in criminal litigation and advocacy is key.

The Person:

Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive (with a valid practising certificate)
Strong experience in local authority prosecutions or regulatory enforcement work
Confident in court advocacy, particularly in Magistrates’ Court
Solid knowledge of relevant legislation (Housing Act, Environmental Protection Act, etc.)
