Overview of the role: Medway Council are seeking an experienced Senior Engineer to join their Highways Capital Projects team. This is a fantastic opportunity to lead on the design, contract administration and delivery of complex highway and infrastructure schemes across the Medway area.
You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping transport improvements funded by the Local Transport Plan, Section 106 and other investment streams, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time and within budget.
This is a hybrid role with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office (ME2 4EW).
Responsibilities:
- Lead on the design of highway schemes in line with national standards (DMRB, MCHW, MfS).
- Prepare and manage works orders using the Term Maintenance Contract (TMC) and NEC contracts.
- Administer contracts including valuation of works and processing payments.
- Supervise construction sites and ensure contractor performance.
- Liaise with stakeholders including elected members, the public and internal teams.
- Uphold Medway Council’s values, safety standards and sustainability goals.
- HNC/HND or equivalent in Civil/Highway Engineering.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in highway design and delivery.
- Strong knowledge of CDM regulations and health & safety legislation.
- Proficient in AutoCAD and project management software.
- Experience with NEC contracts is desirable (PM Accreditation preferred).
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.
