Role:

The Solutions Architect is responsible for the efficient and effective design of new ICT service solutions that meet the needs of West Mercia Police. The role will be responsible for transforming requirements and proposals from the business into new service solution or existing service improvement designs as a member of the Solution Delivery Team, enabling their evaluation review by internal stakeholders, go-ahead approval on proposals by internal sponsors, and delivery by internal or external teams to the required standards.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. To be responsible for ICT solution during the planning, design, development, deployment and approvals, ensuring all related architecture documentation is produced to the required standard.
  2. To take responsibility for understanding strategic business requirements, collecting data, delivering analysis and recommending solution options.
  3. To ensure that the ICT service solutions meet all the relevant industry/national/legislative/compliance standards.
  4. To ensure the solution design meets the business requirements and ICT strategy, leveraging industry standards as much as possible. Identifying risks and providing mitigations options for these to the Solution Delivery Team.
  5. To be responsible for impact analysis and quality assurance of solution architectural design modifications to existing systems to support the delivery of new solutions in accordance with relevant standards for ICT Security etc.
  6. To collaborate with, and facilitates stakeholder groups to ensure the contribution of all relevant stakeholders is maximised. Digital Services - Solution Architect - May 2021 2
  7. To articulate complex technical subject matter in ways that are understood by non-technical audiences and to clearly articulate the risks as well as the benefits in a similar manner.

Knowledge:

  1. Level 6 qualification in an ICT related discipline
  2. Certification in ITIL, TOGAF/COBIT, Prince2, or an equivalent framework.
  3. In-depth knowledge of architecture methodologies and frameworks and extensive experience of their application under a number of architecture frameworks for example TOGAF, Enterprise Architecture and Zachman.
  4. Broad knowledge of services and solution design in a similar size, complexity and type of organisation.
  5. An up-to-date knowledge of IT capabilities and services including: cloud computing, end user computing, on premise hosting, identity and access management, virtualisation, application development and management, device management, mobility solutions, secure gateways and remote access, management infrastructure and cross-domain solutions
  6. Strong knowledge of Supplier Management and collaboration.
  7. Successful in applying architectural tools and methods using industry best practice with a knowledge of ISO 20000 (Service Management) and ITSM.
  8. Knowledge and understanding of Industry Best Practice and relevant guidelines such as ITIL v4. Experience:
  9. Demonstrate significant experience of architecting service solutions in a similar large complex multi-faceted organisation.
  10. Demonstrate experience of translating user requirements into ICT service designs, being the subject matter expert from inception, through to delivery to the end customer.
  11. Relevant experience demonstrating an aptitude for analysing systems, processes and operational procedures for continual improvement.
