Job Title: Operational Manager – Youth Justice Service Location: Sefton (Hybrid/On-site)
Contract Type: Fixed Term – 6 months (with potential for extension)
Pay Rate: £27.60 PAYE / £36.29 LTD per hour (paid via umbrella company)
Start Date: As soon as possible

About the Role Sefton’s Youth Justice Service is seeking a skilled and motivated Operational Manager to join our team on a 6-month fixed-term contract, with the potential for extension. This is a key leadership role for an experienced professional who is committed to improving outcomes for children and young people within the youth justice system.

You will play a central part in ensuring high-quality service delivery, effective team management, and strong multi-agency collaboration, including with Children’s Social Care and partner agencies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide operational leadership and day-to-day management oversight to Youth Justice Service staff.

  • Ensure effective delivery of statutory youth justice interventions and support services.

  • Monitor and improve practice standards, ensuring compliance with national guidance and local policies.

  • Collaborate closely with multi-agency partners to deliver integrated services for young people and their families.

  • Contribute to strategic planning and service development as part of the wider management team.

  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports as required for internal and external stakeholders.

Essential Requirements
  • A relevant professional qualification (e.g., Social Work, Probation, Youth Justice, or equivalent).

  • A leadership or management qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience in leading services.

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of the Youth Justice sector and current legislation, guidance, and best practice.

  • Proven ability to lead teams and drive high-quality performance in a multi-agency context.

  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and communication skills.

Desirable
  • Previous experience managing within a local authority Youth Justice Service.

  • Experience working with performance frameworks and inspection preparation.

  • Familiarity with youth offending case management systems and reporting tools.
