Role Overview The Advanced Practitioner plays a critical role in delivering high-quality frontline services within Children’s Social Care at North Tyneside Council. This position combines complex casework responsibilities with practice leadership, supporting the development of less experienced social workers and promoting excellent standards across the team.

You will work with children, young people, and families with the most complex needs, ensuring safe, effective, and child-centred interventions while contributing to continuous service improvement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of complex and high-risk cases, ensuring timely and effective interventions in line with statutory requirements.
  • Undertake comprehensive assessments, care planning, and reviews to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.
  • Provide expert guidance, mentoring, and informal supervision to social workers and support staff.
  • Lead by example in demonstrating best practice, evidence-based decision-making, and high professional standards.
  • Support the Team Manager in driving service improvements and embedding good practice across the team.
  • Contribute to audits, quality assurance processes, and practice development initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with multi-agency partners to deliver coordinated and effective support for children and families.
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and high-quality recording in line with organisational and regulatory standards.
Key Skills and Experience
  • Strong experience within Children’s Services, including managing complex safeguarding cases.
  • Demonstrable ability to provide practice leadership and support to colleagues.
  • Excellent assessment, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and support others.
  • Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, statutory guidance, and best practice in children’s social care.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively under pressure.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Qualified Social Worker (Degree/DipSW/CQSW or equivalent).
  • Current registration with Social Work England.
  • Significant post-qualification experience within Children’s Social Care.
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain).
