Approved Mental Health Professional (Social and Healthcare Qualified) – Contract Role in Devon

Are you an experienced Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) seeking an immediate opportunity to make a difference? We are currently recruiting a locum Approved Mental Health Professional (Social and Healthcare Qualified) to join Devon’s innovative AMHP service on a short-term basis. This role offers a fantastic chance to work within a forward-thinking team dedicated to advancing mental health practice and delivering high-quality care.

Position: Approved Mental Health Professional (Social and Healthcare Qualified) – Contract

Location: Exeter, with travel across Devon
Contract Duration: 2 weeks
Working Hours: 9am – 5pm, Monday to Friday (possibility of compressing full-time hours into four days or part-time arrangements)

Candidate Responsibilities:

  • Provide mental health assessments and recommendations under the Mental Health Act, including s13 considerations.
  • Work creatively within the Devon AMHP service to develop and implement best practices.
  • Travel across Devon to conduct assessments and attend meetings as required.
  • Engage respectfully and effectively with individuals, families, and professionals involved in mental health care.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of all assessments and interventions.
  • Support the service’s ongoing efforts to incorporate the voices of those with experience of the mental health system, helping to improve service quality.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Significant post-qualifying experience as an AMHP.
  • Existing AMHP warrant essential.
  • Qualification as a Social Worker or Healthcare Professional.
  • Strong understanding of s13 MHA considerations and mental health legislation.
  • Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Flexibility regarding hours and working arrangements.
