Assistant Team Manager – Children's Social Care

Location: Sefton Council
Team: Early Help Support & Protection / Support & Protection Teams 1–5 / Court Advisory Team
Contract: 24 Weeks
Rate: £40.00 per hour (Ltd/Umbrella)

Service Care Solutions are recruiting for an experienced Assistant Team Manager to join Sefton Council's Children's Social Care service on a 24-week contract.


This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled and motivated social care professional to step into a leadership role, supporting frontline practitioners to deliver high-quality safeguarding services for children and young people.

The Role
As Assistant Team Manager, you will support the day-to-day management of a team of Social Workers and other professionals, ensuring statutory duties are delivered effectively while promoting the safety and wellbeing of vulnerable children and families.
You will provide leadership, supervision and professional guidance, helping to drive excellent practice, manage performance and ensure positive outcomes across the service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the daily operational management of the team.
  • Supervise and mentor Social Workers, support staff and Social Work students.
  • Manage and oversee caseload allocation to ensure workloads are balanced and risk is effectively managed.
  • Provide high-quality case supervision and management oversight.
  • Co-work complex safeguarding and court cases where required.
  • Ensure assessments, care plans and court reports are completed to a consistently high standard.
  • Chair meetings and provide expert guidance on safeguarding thresholds and legal processes.
  • Monitor performance, quality assurance findings and audit outcomes to improve practice.
  • Promote child-centred, evidence-based interventions that achieve positive outcomes.
  • Support the Team Manager with performance management, staff development and service improvement.
  • Build strong partnerships with multi-agency professionals and promote collaborative working.
  • Deputise for the Team Manager when required.
About You
To be considered, you will have:
  • Qualified Social Worker status (Degree, DipSW, CQSW or equivalent).
  • Current Social Work England registration.
  • Significant post-qualification experience within Children's Social Care.
  • Previous experience supervising or managing Social Workers.
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation, statutory guidance and court processes.
  • Experience within Child Protection, Children in Need and Court proceedings.
  • Excellent communication, leadership and decision-making skills.
  • A commitment to delivering high-quality, child-focused practice.
