Director of Public Health and CommunitiesService Care Solutions are recruiting on behalf of Bath and North East Somerset Council for an exceptional Director of Public Health and Communities to join their Corporate Management Team in a permanent statutory leadership position.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced or aspiring Director of Public Health to lead a broad and influential portfolio, combining statutory public health responsibilities with community wellbeing, prevention, and leisure services. You'll play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of the Council while improving health outcomes and reducing inequalities across the local community.

The Role
As the Director of Public Health and Communities, you will:
  • Provide statutory leadership as the Council's Director of Public Health.
  • Lead the development and delivery of public health, prevention, wellbeing and community strategies.
  • Influence policy and decision-making at local, regional and national levels.
  • Drive a place-based, neighbourhood approach to improving population health and reducing health inequalities.
  • Work collaboratively across the Council, NHS, Integrated Care System (ICS), voluntary sector and wider partners.
  • Provide strategic leadership as a member of the Corporate Management Team.
  • Lead services including public health, prevention, community wellbeing and leisure.
  • Develop innovative approaches to prevention and early intervention.
  • Build strong relationships with elected members, senior leaders and partner organisations.
  • Ensure delivery of statutory public health responsibilities while promoting continuous improvement and innovation.
About You
To be considered for this opportunity, you will have:
  • Specialist registration on the GMC Specialist Register (Public Health Medicine) with a licence to practise, the GDC Specialist List, or the UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) at specialist level.
  • Membership of the Faculty of Public Health (FPH) by examination, exemption or assessment (or equivalent).
  • Significant senior leadership experience within Public Health.
  • A strong track record of system leadership and partnership working.
  • Experience influencing strategy within complex organisations and multi-agency partnerships.
  • Extensive knowledge of public health, prevention, health improvement and tackling health inequalities.
  • Excellent political awareness and experience working with elected members and senior stakeholders.
  • The ability to lead transformational change while delivering improved outcomes for communities.
