Job Title: MASH Social Worker – Children’s Services
Location: Penrith (Hybrid working – provisionally 6 days per month onsite)
Contract: 3-month contract, ongoing
Pay Rate:

• £45 per hour umbrella
• £39.49 PAYE (inclusive)
• £35.24 PAYE (exclusive)

Job Overview We are currently recruiting an experienced Children’s MASH Social Worker to join a Local Authority Children’s Services team based in Penrith. The role sits within the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) and focuses on safeguarding, screening, and decision-making at the front door.
The client is offering hybrid working, with an expectation of approximately 6 days per month in the office (provisionally).
Key Responsibilities

• Screen and triage incoming safeguarding referrals concerning children and young people
• Undertake robust risk assessments and make informed threshold decisions
• Decide appropriate next steps, including Early Help, Child in Need, or Child Protection pathways
• Work closely with partner agencies such as Police, Health, Education, and Early Help
• Ensure all decisions are clearly recorded and evidence-based
• Maintain high-quality, timely case recording in line with statutory guidance
• Apply legislation including the Children Act 1989 & 2004 and Working Together to Safeguard Children
• Manage workload effectively in a fast-paced MASH environment

Essential Requirements

• Qualified Social Worker
• Registered with Social Work England
• Recent Children’s Social Work experience within a Local Authority
• MASH experience is highly desirable
• Strong safeguarding knowledge and analytical decision-making skills
• Ability to work effectively in a multi-agency setting
• Enhanced DBS (Update Service desirable)

Working Arrangements

• Hybrid working model
• Provisionally 6 days per month onsite in Penrith
• Remainder of work completed remotely
