ocial Worker – Connecting Families (Children in Care Service, Durham)
Connecting Families is a specialist team within Durham’s Children in Care service. We work with children and young people (0–18) who are subject to a Section 31 Care Order and where there’s a realistic opportunity for them to safely return home. Our focus is reunification done well—supporting families to create the right conditions for children to go home and stay home, with the child’s voice at the centre.
You’ll work closely with families and partners including Family Group Conferencing, Supporting Solutions, Connected Care and Early Help to build strong, sustainable support networks. This role also involves creating clear exit plans and contributing to positive court applications to discharge Care Orders.
We’re a small, supportive and nurturing team where relationship-based practice, trauma-informed approaches and the Signs of Safety framework shape everything we do. You’ll spend meaningful time with children, help them make sense of their experiences, and ensure their views guide your work.
Durham Children’s Services was rated Outstanding by Ofsted (March 2025), with inspectors praising our ambitious leadership, strong practice culture and the sense of belonging felt by our social workers.
What We’re Looking For
We welcome passionate, child-centred social workers who can build strong relationships, communicate well, and write clear, reflective assessments. Completion of your ASYE is essential for the role.
Support & Development
You’ll benefit from a strong practice culture with personalised induction, regular supervision, mentoring, and a wide range of training and development opportunities.
Flexible and hybrid working support a healthy work–life balance, two days in office per week minimum, based at Seaham Spectrum Office.
