Candidates Responsibilities for the Children’s Social Worker Role
As a Children’s Social Worker, your responsibilities will include:
- Responding to new referrals and safeguarding concerns within the Duty & Assessment Team, conducting initial assessments to identify risks and needs of children and families.
- Managing short-term interventions, making informed decisions quickly, and determining appropriate next steps.
- Supporting, supervising, and developing foster carers by completing foster assessments, including Form F, and ensuring placements are safe and meet children’s needs.
- Developing long-term care plans for children in the Children in Care Team to promote stability and permanency.
- Building trusted relationships with children, young people, and their families to facilitate positive outcomes.
- Identifying suitable placements for children in care by liaising with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring statutory compliance.

Requirements for the Children’s Social Worker
- Qualified Social Worker (Degree, DipSW, or equivalent)
- Registered with Social Work England
- Experience within children’s services, particularly in safeguarding, fostering, or care proceedings
