About the Role Service Care Solutions are currently recruiting for an experienced Mental Health Social Worker to join an Adult Mental Health service in Tameside.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified Social Worker with mental health experience and a minimum of 2 years’ post-qualification experience to join a supportive multidisciplinary team, with opportunities for professional development and progression into Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) training.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with colleagues across a range of disciplines to provide a needs-led, strengths-based approach to supporting adults and their families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Complete Care Act assessments and develop clear, person-centred support plans.
  • Work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams to promote a needs-based approach.
  • Promote partnership working with service users, families, carers and partner agencies.
  • Complete funding applications and other statutory documentation.
  • Undertake work involving legal and statutory requirements, including COPDOL, DoLS, Section 21a applications and reports for court.
  • Develop meaningful relationships with individuals who may be considered difficult to engage.
  • Work closely with families and other professionals to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Assess and support carers in accordance with the Care Act.
  • Support young people approaching adulthood and facilitate transitions into Adult Mental Health Services.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, supervision and peer support.
  • Contribute to ongoing service development and joint training opportunities.
Working Hours The service operates across a 6-day service, between 9:00am and 5:00pm, although the role is predominantly Monday to Friday with only occasional Saturday working.

Current working hours are:

  • Monday: 8:30am – 5:00pm
  • Tuesday: 8:30am – 5:00pm
  • Wednesday: 8:30am – 5:00pm
  • Thursday: 8:30am – 4:30pm
  • Friday: 8:30am – 4:00pm
The team is currently working towards one working-from-home day per week, arranged in agreement with managers.

Some flexibility may occasionally be required to facilitate planned interventions.

Salary & Benefits The position is paid within the H Professional Bar Point (SCP 29–34):

  • SCP 29 – £39,862
  • SCP 30 – £40,777
  • SCP 31 – £41,771
  • SCP 32 – £42,839
  • SCP 33 – £44,075
  • SCP 34 – £45,091
Annual leave entitlement includes:

  • Under 5 years' service: 28 days for Grade G–N
  • 5 years' service: 28 days
  • 10 years' service: 31 days
AMHP Development Opportunity Qualified and warranted AMHPs will receive an additional £82 per AMHP shift worked, with an average of approximately 25–30 shifts per year.

For Social Workers who are not currently AMHP qualified, the service is willing to support and train suitable candidates to become an AMHP following a period of employment.

Additional AMHP development includes:

  • AMHP supervision
  • AMHP conferences
  • AMHP peer support
  • Opportunities to develop specialist mental health practice
The team also benefits from regular supervision, peer supervision and joint training sessions with Pennine Care Mental Health Services.

Requirements To be considered for this position, you must have:

  • A recognised Social Work qualification.
  • Current Social Work England (SWE) registration.
  • Minimum of 2 years' post-qualification experience.
  • Previous Mental Health Social Work experience is essential.
  • Experience undertaking Care Act assessments.
  • Knowledge of relevant adult social care and mental health legislation.
  • Strong assessment, report-writing and communication skills.
  • The ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary environment.
AMHP status is desirable but not essential, as training and development opportunities are available for suitable candidates.
