We are currently recruiting for experienced and motivated Senior Social Workers to join Barnsley’s fast-paced and supportive Assessment & Duty Team on a 3-month interim basis. This contract is to provide cover during a period of transition between staff leavers and new starters.
Based at Wombwell Police Station, co-located with the police, you will work within one of four Assessment Teams completing timely assessments for children and families within 40 working days. Working collaboratively with families and partner agencies, you will help determine the most appropriate interventions to achieve positive outcomes for children.

The Role
- Undertake high-quality child and family assessments
- Manage duty allocations on a rota basis (1 week on duty, 3 weeks off duty)
- Develop effective intervention plans where required
- Work within a short-term service focused on timely decision-making and risk management
- Liaise with Early Help services, long-term teams, and partner agencies
- Ensure children and families receive the right support at the right time
- Qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England registration
- Significant experience within Children’s Services, ideally Assessment/Duty teams
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Strong assessment, safeguarding, and decision-making skills
- Passionate about improving outcomes and lived experiences for children and families
- Confident working within performance frameworks and statutory timescales
- Competitive rate of £35ph Umbrella

- Hybrid working: minimum 3 days in the office per week
