Job title - Accounts Officer
Location - Ashford, Kent TN23
Contract - Temporary 6 Months
Hours - 37 hours over Monday - Friday - Flexible hours permitted - Core time is (usually) 10:00-12:00 and 14:00-16:00.
Start Date - ASAP

The Role Summary


Our client is looking for a temporary Accounts Officer to assist and support the Senior Accountant in a variety of financial tasks including taking ownership of providing financial support to specific services, this will include support for budget setting, budget monitoring and Closure of Accounts.


Your key duties within the role will include:

  • The post holder will also take responsibility for asset and capital accounting, including asset register maintenance and year end transactions for capital expenditure and asset movements.
  • To assist the Senior Accountant in the provision of accounting services to departments, which will include the preparation of service medium term financial plans, preparation of revenue budgets, final accounts closedown, budget monitoring and S106 Monitoring.
  • Work with the Senior Accountant to ensure capital projects are monitored and variances reported through Budget Monitoring.
  • Maintain the Asset Register for all transactions up to and including year-end transactions. Acquisitions, disposals, valuation movements and depreciation.
  • Provide support on various projects as required, including analysis of large data sets using Excel and other software systems.
  • Work closely with other members of the team to ensure cover is available when needed. Including daily cover for Treasury Management.
  • Complete the bank reconciliation for the payments account on a monthly basis and cover the general ledger reconciliation when required.
  • To carry out any tasks that may be allocated as part of the closing of accounts and budget programmes to the agreed timescales.


Requirements

  • 2-3 year experience of working in an accounting environment or Finance department
  • Experience of budget setting, monitoring and reconciliations
  • Experience in Local Authority Accounting - Desired
  • Knowledge of Quickbooks software - Desired
