Children’s Residential Support Worker
Location: Doncaster
Client: City of Doncaster Council
Sector: Children and Family Services
Salary: £27,259 - £29,955 pro rata
Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Hours: Full-time, including shift work and sleep-ins
Additional Pay: £41.78 per sleep-in (approx. 4 per month)
Shift Pattern: Includes weekends (2 weekends off out of every 4)
Role Overview
As a Children’s Residential Support Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting children and young people living in residential care. You will help provide a safe, nurturing, and therapeutic environment that encourages emotional, social, and practical development.
Key Duties May Include
  • Providing day-to-day care and supervision of children and young people in a residential setting
  • Supporting with educational, recreational, and social activities
  • Assisting with daily routines, including meal preparation, personal care, and household tasks
  • Maintaining accurate records and care plans
  • Participating in sleep-in shifts and weekend cover as part of a rota
Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality, child-focused care and support
  • Act as a positive role model and build trusting relationships
  • Promote independence, self-esteem, and life skills
  • Work collaboratively with multi-agency professionals (e.g., social workers, teachers, therapists)
  • Advocate for the rights and wellbeing of the children and young people
What They're Looking For
  • Experience working with children and young people (preferably in residential care)
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care – Children and Young People or equivalent)
  • Understanding of safeguarding, trauma-informed care, and child development
  • Commitment to providing a nurturing and structured environment

  • Ability to remain calm in challenging situations
  • Team player with a proactive attitude
  • Capable of building meaningful and supportive relationships
Other Requirements
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and sleep-in shifts
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undergo one)
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Willingness to undertake ongoing training and development
