Senior Mechanical Engineer

A Local Authority based in Tyne and Wear is currently recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their team as soon as possible.

This is a full time, temporary position and the ideal candidate will hold a HNC / HND in Building Services Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.

The purpose of the role is to provide a comprehensive Mechanical Engineering service across pre-construction, design, technical development, specification and recording of projects to domestic and non-domestic buildings.

The main responsibilities of the role are:

  • To implement the standards and the policies of the Service.
  • To carry out projects within expenditure and time constraints.
  • To work collaboratively with other Officers, Services, Agencies and the general public.
  • To take responsibility as the Lead Officer on projects, prepare feasibility studies, comprehensive works packages comprising designs, specifications, associated pre-construction information, act in the roles of Contract Administrator and Principal Designer, aligning to the RIBA Plan of Work 2020, the CDM Regulations 2015 and Service Operational Procedures.
  • To undertake design coordination and value engineering activities where required.
  • To undertake building surveys, establish property conditions, and recommend remedial action.
  • Provide mentoring support to less experienced colleagues.
  • Other duties and responsibilities appropriate to the grade of the post.

Requirements:

  • Mechanical building systems and technologies, including renewables.
  • Codes of Practice, Statutory Regulations, CIBSE design standards, and other relevant legislation.
  • RIBA Plan of Work 2020, CDM 2015, Contract Administration and site practices.
  • Surveys, scoping, specifications, technical design, coordination, value engineering, installation and inspection.
  • Specific design software (Hevacomp, IES), AutoCAD and NBS.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Computer literate, including across the Microsoft Office suite.

The client is looking to move quickly with this role and as such are offering between £30 - £35 p/hour Umbrella Ltd (approx. £725 - £810 p/week NET after deductions) dependant on experience and qualifications.
