A local authority in East London are seeking a dedicated and proactive Temporary Accommodation Management Officer to join their Housing Demand Service team. Based in Havering, you will be instrumental in providing a high-quality housing management service, addressing tenancy matters for homeless households in private sector leased temporary accommodation.

As a Temporary Accommodation Management Officer, you will be the principal point of contact for residents within a specified local area or estate, ensuring a high standard of living conditions. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing comprehensive housing management services to residents.
  • Supporting residents in sustaining their homes and improving their quality of life.
  • Offering advice on safeguarding, health and wellbeing, welfare rights, personal finance, hoarding, tenancy management, mediation, life skills, and promoting personal independence.
  • Managing tenancy and lease conditions, addressing anti-social behaviour, and ensuring compliance with relevant policies and procedures.
  • Collaborating with other council departments to resolve issues such as gas access, tenancy fraud, and fire risks.
  • Raising orders and commissioning necessary works within budgetary constraints.
  • Occasionally working outside normal office hours as required.

The ideal candidate for this Temporary Accommodation Management Officer role will have substantial experience in housing services and exceptional customer care skills. You should be capable of managing conflicting priorities and working autonomously. Your main qualifications and skills should include:

  • Working in social housing, care, or similar public sector roles.
  • Managing complex casework both face-to-face and in writing.
  • Building relationships with a wide range of local stakeholders and partners.
  • Providing tenancy, housing, and leasehold advice, with a focus on best practice and compliance.
  • Working in a front-facing team, assessing clients' housing needs.
  • Effective multi-disciplinary collaboration.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and policies (Housing Acts, ASB, Crime and Policing Act 2014, Care Act 2014, local housing strategies, etc.).
  • Proficiency in using data and case management systems.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of engaging with clients from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to handle conflict and potential aggression professionally.

This is a full time Temporary Accommodation Management Officer role, working on contract until March 2025.
