Transport Planner

A Local Authority based in South Yorkshire is currently recruiting for a Transport Planner to join their team as soon as possible.

This is a full time, temporary contract and the ideal candidate will have good knowledge of local, regional and national transport policies and strategies.

The purpose of the role is to deliver drafting business cases for specific transport projects, and coordinating the inputs into these.

The main responsibilities:

  • Acting as client for transport schemes, ensuring projects are delivered to time cost and quality, including approving project plans, requesting changes, raising issues and risks, approving milestones, releasing payments, and accepting (or declining) the final deliverables of the project.
  • Drafting business case for submission to external funding partners for transport schemes in the Borough
  • Working with project managers to co-ordinate delivery of inputs into those business cases.
  • Commissioning and overseeing external support where required in respect of modelling and appraisal as required for those business cases.
  • Commissioning and managing data collection, include the authority's suite of automatic traffic counters but also additional traffic surveys as may be required as part of projects or research
  • Production, checking and evaluating of junction modelling as part of development of Councils schemes, and in respect of checking of third party proposals.


The client is looking to move quickly with this role and as such are offering between £35 - £40 p/hour Umbrella Ltd (approx. £810 - £910 p/week NET after deductions) dependant on experience and qualifications.
