Senior Social Work Assistant – Area Services

Birmingham Children’s Trust is looking for a dedicated and compassionate Senior Social Work Assistant to join our Area Services team. You will play a vital role in supporting Social Workers to safeguard and promote the welfare of vulnerable children and young people across the city, ensuring they have the best opportunities to thrive.

About the Role As a Senior Social Work Assistant, you will hold allocated casework and work closely with children, young people, and their families, delivering practical day-to-day support and interventions. You’ll liaise with partner agencies, complete assessments, and maintain accurate case records in line with statutory and organisational requirements.

This is a varied role where no two days are the same – you could be supporting a young person to access education one day and contributing to an assessment to safeguard a child the next.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage an allocated caseload, as assigned by the Team Manager or Social Worker.

  • Collect, record, and analyse information to fulfil statutory responsibilities.

  • Support children and families through direct work and practical interventions.

  • Liaise with other professionals and agencies to deliver joined-up support.

  • Complete assessments and reports in line with legislation and best practice.

  • Contribute to team meetings and service reviews.

  • Keep up to date with changes in legislation, policy, and best practice.

Requirements
  • Experience of working with children and/or families in a care setting.

  • Experience of liaising with other agencies to support children and families.

  • Basic knowledge of social work practice and legislation relating to children and families.

  • Strong communication skills – both written and verbal.

  • Ability to work as part of a team and in partnership with other agencies.

  • Competent in accurate record-keeping in various formats.

  • Commitment to valuing diversity and treating people fairly.
