Building Safety Lead

A client within the Public Sector based in Warwickshire is currently recruiting for a Building Safety Lead to join their Neighbourhood and Assets team as soon as possible. The client is offering a full time, temporary position on an ongoing basis with the ideal candidate having experience of working within a local authority within a Building Safety/Compliance environment.

The Role
Key purpose of the role is to ensure that the Council complies with relevant fire and building safety legislation and regulations, acting as the point of contact with the Building Safety Regulator for High-Risk Residential Buildings (HRRBs), and embedding a strong culture of building safety across the organisation.

Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
• Acting as the Council’s competent person for building safety, ensuring compliance with emerging legislation.
• Providing advice and guidance on fire and structural safety to staff, residents, and the Building Safety Regulator.
• Leading on the management and monitoring of property-related compliance, including asbestos, gas, water hygiene, electrical and fire safety.
• Developing and maintaining building safety cases, risk assessments, and resident engagement strategies.
• Supporting the Strategic Assets Manager to deliver operational objectives and contribute to the Council’s asset strategy.
• Managing and improving property health and safety policies, procedures, and reporting mechanisms.
• Monitoring contractor and consultant performance, ensuring statutory compliance and value for money.
• Preparing reports, KPIs and performance data for senior management and Council committees.

The Candidate
To be considered for this role you will require:

• Degree level qualification or equivalent membership (e.g. RICS, MCIOB, CABE).
• Knowledge and experience in building safety legislation and ability to act as the competent person.
• NEBOSH General Certificate (or working towards).

The below skills would be beneficial for the role:
• NEBOSH Diploma (or working towards).
• Auditor qualification (ISO 9001/18001).
• Experience in social housing compliance.
• Appropriate qualifications in asbestos, legionella, gas safety, electrical safety, fire risk assessment, or lift safety.
• Membership of professional safety/fire bodies (MIFireE, TechIOSH, CMIOSH, IFE approved FRA qualification).

The client is looking to move quickly with this role and as such are offering £32 per hour Umbrella LTD Inside IR35 (approx. £27 per hour PAYE).
