Children’s Support Worker
Are you passionate about making a real difference to the lives of women and children escaping domestic abuse? We are looking for a Children’s Support Worker to join a specialist service supporting survivors of gender-based violence. This is an opportunity to help create safe, supportive environments where children can heal, grow, and thrive.
Location: Derby
Contract: Full-time, 37.5 hrs/week
The Role
As a Children’s Support Worker, you’ll work directly with children and their mothers who are rebuilding their lives after escaping domestic abuse. You will provide one-to-one and group support, design engaging activities, and create a nurturing environment that promotes safety, resilience and confidence.

Key responsibilities include:
- Creating a safe, welcoming, and inclusive space for children within the refuge.
- Providing one-to-one emotional and practical support tailored to each child’s needs.
- Planning and delivering stimulating play and learning activities that encourage self-expression, creativity, and social development.
- Leading interactive sessions during school holidays and after school.
- Supporting mothers to understand and respond to their children’s needs, helping them access schools, nurseries, and local services.
- Delivering joint activities for mothers and children to strengthen bonds and promote positive relationships.
- Carrying out risk assessments to ensure all activities meet health and safety standards.
- Providing childcare to enable mothers to attend important appointments with solicitors, police, or support agencies.
- Identifying and escalating any safeguarding concerns in line with policy and procedures.
- Working in partnership with colleagues and external agencies to deliver a coordinated support package.
- Keeping accurate records, monitoring activities, and contributing to service development.

- Ability to plan and deliver engaging activities for children and young people

- Resilience, empathy, and a commitment to equality and inclusion
