About the Role
Sheffield City Council is seeking a dedicated and adaptable SEND Educational Support Worker to join a fast-paced education establishment. The successful candidate will support high-needs learners in overcoming barriers to learning, with a strong focus on promoting independence, tracking progress, and achieving goals linked to Preparation for Adulthood, Maths, and English.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored support to learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
  • Assist learners in developing core skills in Maths and English.
  • Support learners in working towards Preparation for Adulthood outcomes, including independence, employment, and community inclusion.
  • Adapt support approaches to meet individual needs in a flexible and responsive way.
  • Monitor, track, and record learner progress against agreed targets and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff, parents/carers, and external agencies to ensure effective learner support.
  • Promote inclusion and a positive learning environment.
  • Encourage learner engagement, resilience, and self-confidence.
Experience & Knowledge
  • Previous experience supporting learners with SEND in an educational or similar setting.
  • Knowledge of barriers to learning faced by high-needs learners.
  • Understanding of Preparation for Adulthood framework.
  • Experience in tracking learner progress and outcomes.
  • Familiarity with safeguarding practices within education.
Skills & Competencies
  • Ability to build positive and supportive relationships with learners.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Organised, with good record-keeping and progress tracking skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Resilience and patience in supporting learners with complex needs.
Qualifications
  • Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, Learning Support, or equivalent (desirable).
  • GCSE (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
  • Training in SEND or relevant areas of learner support (advantageous).
Other Requirements
  • Commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undergo).
  • Willingness to undertake relevant training and continuous professional development.
