Client: Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council (Children’s Services)
Contract Type: Temporary (6 months)
Hours: Full time – 37 hours per week
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Project Officer to join our Early Start and Families Service within Children’s Services. The post holder will support the service in progressing work relating to the local Family Hubs offer, helping to improve outcomes for children and families. You will assist with project management, performance, quality, and service development activities, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in line with best practice.

About the Role

Key Responsibilities
- Assist with project management, coordinating resources to ensure delivery of agreed outcomes.
- Support the planning, monitoring, and evaluation of projects within a formal project management framework.
- Contribute to performance management, data analysis, and quality assurance to support continuous service improvement.
- Maintain project risk registers and assist in resolving issues to ensure successful delivery.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and documentation to support decision-making.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including managers, councillors, and partner agencies, to ensure effective project outcomes.
- Keep up to date with local and national developments relevant to family hubs and children’s services.
- Support the identification and implementation of improved processes, systems, and practices.
- Undertake other duties commensurate with the role.
- Substantial experience of supporting projects to fruition.
- Experience of working in a project management environment.
- Knowledge of children’s services and early help, including transformation and service improvement.
- Experience of using recognised project management methodologies.
- Strong understanding of the challenges facing children’s social care.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft applications.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collate and interpret data.
- Skilled in preparing reports, presentations, and other documentation.
- Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Relevant Level 2 qualification (essential).
- Project/Programme Management training or substantial demonstrable experience in a project management environment (essential).
- Willingness to work flexibly to meet service needs.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Ability to travel as required for the role.
