A client within the Public Sector based in Derbyshire is currently recruiting for a Principal Quantity Surveyor to join their team as soon as possible. The client is offering a full time, temporary position on an ongoing basis with the ideal candidate having experience of working within a local authority within a construction and property environment.
The Role
Key purpose of the role is to lead on the financial and contractual management of construction projects, ensuring they are delivered within budget, compliant with procurement rules, and provide value for money for the authority.
Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
• Producing and maintaining detailed cash flow profiles for capital projects.
• Preparing feasibility studies, Bills of Quantity, schedules of work, and tender documentation.
• Leading on contract management and procurement processes in line with regulations.
• Monitoring and reporting on budgets, valuations, and final accounts.
• Liaising with contractors, consultants, and internal teams to ensure effective delivery of projects.
The Candidate
To be considered for this role you will require:
• Previous experience in a local authority or social housing setting.
• Excellent negotiation and contractor management skills.
• Ability to lead on strategy, policy development, and financial reporting.
The client is looking to move quickly with this role and as such are offering £350 per day Umbrella LTD Inside IR35 (approx. £280 per day PAYE).

The Candidate
To be considered for this role you will require:
- A recognised professional qualification such as MRICS or equivalent in Quantity Surveying.
- Extensive experience in cost management and contract administration within construction.
- Strong knowledge of procurement legislation, CDM regulations, and health & safety compliance.
• Previous experience in a local authority or social housing setting.
• Excellent negotiation and contractor management skills.
• Ability to lead on strategy, policy development, and financial reporting.
